6:30 – 8:30 pm
Join Marie Olofsdotter for a session of poetry for writers at all levels: meet the muse, explore nature, and capture a moment in your life in the form of a poem. Through a playful approach to writing, participants will be guided in the creation of poems straight from the heart. We’ll use tools such as metaphor and anaphora (pattern) to create vivid and compelling pieces of writing. In the process we might discover, like famed poet Maya Angelou, that “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”
Born and raised in Sweden, Marie Olofsdotter lives along the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Known for her picture books Sofia and the Heartmender and A Picture Book of Cesar Chavez, the creative consultant and teaching artist has shared her enthusiasm for creativity and the arts through the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Opera, the Loft Literary Center, the MacPhail Center for the Arts, and public libraries and schools across the country.
