A rare portrait of the coming-of-age of a Muslim teen, Mariam addresses Islamophobia, the diversity of the Muslim experience, the choice of some Muslim women to wear the hijab, and the assimilation and acceptance of Muslims in the west. Written and directed by Saudi filmmaker and former Washington Post Gulf correspondent Faiza Ambah, the film was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 2015 Dubai International Film Festival.

The 45-minute film, accompanying shorts and discussion are part of the Mizna Arab Film Fest, which invites us to engage with authentic narratives by contemporary Arab filmmakers.
