Peace Camp for Children

Coloring a Brighter Future
Jessica Lopez Lyman and Eric Black
July 9 – 12, 2012

The theme of Wisdom Ways’ fourth annual summer day camp for young peacemakers was Coloring A Brighter Future.  Centered on ritual, art making, community building and conversations Peace Camp participants generated ways to practice peace. Participants were able to explore the universe and all her magical colors with our artist-in-residence, New York multi-media artist, Eric Black. As a comic book creator, abstract painter, and extraterrestrial believer, Eric facilitated workshops on puppet making, robot building, and glow-in the dark painting. Children also had the opportunity to participate in a clay workshop, practice yoga with an instructor from Core Power, and sing and dance with Kairos.

Imagining Our Dreams

July 11-14, 2011

The theme of Wisdom Ways’ third annual summer day camp for young peacemakers was Imagining Our Dreams.  During this week, Peace Camp participants cultivated ways to listen to their dreams, explore their imaginations and collaboratively build a community of actively, engaged peacemakers.  Through ritual, poetry, storytelling, art making, performance, working in community gardens, sharing meals, and having conversations about social justice, Peace Camp provided a joyful, creative space for living peace.
