The Balm in Gilead:
A Time for Reconciliation and Forgiveness

This program has already taken place this spring.
We leave this information so you can see the kinds of programs we offer.

“Reconciliation” has become a 21st century buzzword, a frequently named antidote to the divisiveness of our times. But as Bonhoeffer reminded us, there is no cheap grace and the gift of reconciliation is no exception – it comes hand in hand with forgiveness. What does forgiveness mean? And what might it cost?

This Lent, in a Friday evening and Saturday morning exploration, we'll take holy time tracing some of the sacred contours of reconciliation and forgiveness, discussing what they are and are not. An intellectual and experiential exploration of their transformational spiritual graces, this program will consider Bishop Desmond Tutu’s equation: Truth-telling + Forgiveness = Healing + Reconciliation.

PESENTERS: Zara Renander, former director of the Center for Pilgrimage and Reconciliation in Alabama, trained people as companions in reconciliation. She has served as a consultant to St. Paul's Chapel in New York helping them envisage their ministry to the many pilgrims visiting the chapel post 9/11 and has worked with churches and communities following Katrina, serving as a companion and guide on pilgrimages of reconciliation domestically and overseas.

The Rev. Michele H. Morgan is an Episcopal priest specializing in interim ministry in parishes following abrupt changes in their leadership. Her understanding of reconciliation and forgiveness have been deeply informed by her work in New York in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, as well as her work in 12-step recovery.
